Calling all IJN escort (Shimushu, Mikura, Ukuru etc.) fans

Hello People

I'm new here, and I have a question about the Hei, and Tei Escort vessels...

The Kits I have (without box) have a linoleum pattern on the deck (front and a part of the back), but when I look for info on the net, I see that Pit-Road have re-released these kits, and they show only steel decks (for early and later decks)... The earlier pit-road kits models show a linoleum deck for early models, and a steel deck for the later models.....

So, I'd like to know: are the steel decks correct ?? (and should I remove the lines for the linoleum deck) or do the earlier models indeed have linoleum.....

Did you read the prior page of this thread, 2/3s of the way down? Surviving ships still carrying linoleum postwar.

But if I read correctly there were still linoleum decks on late types...

But what about the steel deck ?? are they also appropriate ??

I don't know if full, steel treaded decks are accurate or not. If anything, a mostly steel deck would likely apply to the later C and D classes. There is a good shot of CD-134 (Type D) under attack. Her forecastle is mostly treaded, but I couldn't speak to the rest of it.

btw, my build will be quite basic... I used to super detail the ships when I build them 20 years ago, but I lost interest, because I only was planning on what to do, and not building anymore..
Don't get me wrong, I love the builds I see here, but I want to have fun building again, and seeing some result, and I love the way the simply build ships look like

It is preferred that builders post their in-progress builds in the Picture Post -> Works in Progress section. No need to delete your one image though. Also, feel free to post a picture of your build if it's to illustrate a question or point in this thread.

I opened a thread in the appropriate section....

I do have a question however, the upper part of the rear mast normally is black, but should the radar also be black ?? or should it be grey, and only the mast black.

That's a tough call. It's not obviously darkened; too many shots are taken from an angle with indirect sunlight on this area. Same of postwar views. I think not. Nor do Japanese modelers of these ships from what I can see.

Hi all.

I'm presently working on Pit Road's 1/350 escorts (all four of them).

Does anybody know about upgrade parts or aftermarket replacements for the twin 12cm L45 gun mount at the half rear? In 1/350th scale, of course.

Sadly, I've got nothing, Peter. The mount is obviously two singles bound by a single mounting and aiming device. In this way, it's extremely similar to the 12.7 inch twins. I would use those as guide, if nothing else.

The guns were actually 120 mm. The forward mount was single barrel and the rear mount was double barrels (same as Akagi).

Right. Peter is referring to the aft twin mount.

The left and right side of the mount base were the same for both versions.

Peter can add details based on the single mount base. Hasegawa didn't put a lot of details to the 1/350 Akagi double barrel mount but can be used as a reference.

I can see what I have at home tonight that may be useful to Peter.

So as I am reading through this thread and have talked to Dan about this a bit.

I have the 1/350 Pit Road Ukuru Type-B kit. I am wanting to build the scene with the 499th BG attacking No. 134 which is a Type-D apparently. Reading through the Wiki (which I know can be dubious at times) I noticed that Ukuru was listed as being the Type-C not the B. So either the Wiki is wrong, Pit Road has the kit mislabeled or they are generically referred to as Ukuru's?

Here is the part I am trying to figure out: What modifications are needed to the kit to make it No. 134? (apologies Dan. I cannot find what you had previously sent me).

I know the dual 12cm mount on the kit would need to be changed to a single 12cm.
I will be changing out the type 96 guns for aftermarket and have the Eduard PE set for the Ukuru.

Other than that I am attempting to compare the pictures to the kit with little luck. Are there any plans or line drawings out there for the Type-D so I do not have to bug you guys and can actually do the research in differences myself?
