If anyone knew where I could get some 1/700 P-38s and P-47s, I'd do up the USS Bogue (CVE-9) I got today as USS Barnes (CVE-20) in her role as an aircraft ferry like in the Wikipedia photograph.

Skywave/Pitroad used to do a set for US Army Air Corps that had P-38s and P-47s in it.Goodwood wrote:If anyone knew where I could get some 1/700 P-38s and P-47s, I'd do up the USS Bogue (CVE-9) I got today as USS Barnes (CVE-20) in her role as an aircraft ferry like in the Wikipedia photograph.

Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
Funny you should mention that, I do play the Hammond Organ and played up until two years ago. We actually opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd in Clear Lake Wisconsin. Great job on the a/c for the Lex. I put a bid in for one on Ebay at a reasonable price and have the Squadron book on order. My grade school buddies dad was a Marine on board the Lex, later wounded on Pelilu or maybe Saipan, been awhile, so I want to do one in memory of Vern Lutz, CPL USMC. I am looking forward to seeing how yours turns out and what you do to it. I am also following another one here, can't think of his name now, but he is doing amazing work with the Trumpeter kit. They aren't the best kits but; they are the only ones around and offer a good representation of the vessel out of the box. Thanks for posting your work.Mark McKinnis wrote:Hey!
We're putting the band back together!!
Okay: A few pics of where this is, I am in the final stages putting on the GMM PE netting, railings and ladders. I have a few of the a/c just for scale.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to put the barriers up or down, but in order to get the line on the barriers I had to have them up, so here they are in the up position. It adds some depth to the model. I used EZ line and super glue.

The same for the cross deck pendants. The camera picks up some of the flaws, but from normal viewing they look pretty decent. PE isn't my forte.
Not sure if I will use the Grumman a/c or not. I still have a lot of a/c to do for the deck; I am using the Starfighter decals for the Saratoga. I am going to use the F11C/BFC as well. I may just bury these in the middle of the BFC's.

That is a sweet Saratoga Mark!! I play guitar as well. How funny!
I am going to do Saratoga with a 1940 era airwing. The 1957 Intrepid and 1953 Kearsarge come first though.

Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
Thanks Mark:
That is a coincidence you playing guitar. Sara with a 40's airwing will be neat to see. I plan on doing the Yorktown as Enterprise with the same. My motivation and time frame is the movie "Dive Bomber". I am going to do the aircraft from that movie as well.
As I mentioned earlier, my first ship kit in many years, so I just wanted to build my "chops" and see if I could do this kit. So far I am happy with it. I intend to spend more time and research on "Enterprise" when I get to it. My wife got me a nice "Arizona" coin for my upcoming Arizona build, so that will be next on the 'ways'.
Looking forward to your next update.
