The deck in front of the breakwater has a wooden deck structure. When painting with RN Deck Gray but that's no problem.

Hello,
I need to gather some more references and drawings of Vanguard's 5.25 inch gun and turret. If anyone could send me copies or scans of the drawings, I would be appreciated. They will be used to design a 3D model of the turret and uploaded on Shapeways.
Thanks,
Aop

Very different: they are considerably larger and hexagonal in planform (instead of round/oval).DavidP wrote:how different are they from the kgv & dido classes?

Hi all,
I am looking for more photos of the Vanguard 5.25" gun, especially close-ups. So far there are not many on the internet and all are of low res. If anyone got some better ones, please PM me or send them to the email aopaurshipmodels at gmail dot com
Thanks in advance!

Hi Rod,
Thanks for the links. I have seen all of them. Navweaps says the overall gun length is 6.998 metres. It did not mention any differences between Vanguard gun version and the rest (KGV, Dido), so would it be possible that they are all of the same length? Vanguard still has enlarged gun houses...

Re: Calling all HMS Vanguard (1944-1960) fans
I still need comfirmation whether the Vanguard guns are identical in overall length to the rest (KGV, Dido, Spartan, etc.) The reason I have this question is the fact that Vanguard had enlarged gun houses, so the length could have been different.
Anyone?

Re: Calling all HMS Vanguard (1944-1960) fans
There is no indication of a new gun barrel being a part of the Vanguard's mounts, so 5.25"/50 remains 5.25"/50. Possibly a larger breach mechanism could have added to overall gun assembly length, but that would be inside the turret; externally there would be no difference in gun length.
Could they have used the larger gunhouse size to mount a longer barreled gun? Say, a 5.25"/60? Possibly, but that would likely have required a lot more changes to the machinery, and it wouldn't still be designated as a Mark of a twin 5.25"/50 gun mount.

Is anyone aware of a PE set for the Hasegawa 1/450 kit?
The most attractive project, to me, is the one that I've just heard someone say can't be done.

Peter Hall of Atlantic Models produces the p.e. set.
Also, these have just been released in the last week. I plan to get a set of each:

That kit leaves so much room for added detail it'd be a shame not to use it. I had thought about scratch-building turrets and/or retooling what's there, but those prices are quite reasonable so I might go that route.

These have been added to Shapeways this morning, a huge improvement over the blobs of plastic in the kit.
