Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
Good day,
I am looking at the CVV or Medium Aircraft carrier that was funded and then disappeared when carter left office. So I have two hulls for a starting point. The knock off enterprise and French carrier Charles D. I am leaning towards the Charles d because to make it about the right size and has twin screws. I know I have asked in the main forum about the size of the aircraft and weapons. According to the specs the CVV was supposed to carry 50 aircraft (Midway final air wing) and two C.I.W.S. I think I would keep the VLS module because that would make less platforms needed for RAMS and/or NSSM. As far the Enterprise kit the hull would have to be shorten and elevators be re-located the CVV had on two elevators..

Hi Red,
Move went well from the model perspective. I spent $700 running from Hurricane Mathew but no damage. We got pretty lucky on that one. It swung by about 30 miles from the house. I lost 3 1/72 aircraft in the move. A B-29, a B-26, and an RA-5C. The ships did well. Kennedy is almost done. I am doing the yellow gear now and a 1/350 C-1 Trader from L'Arsenal. I got side tracked on a couple of 1/72 Phantoms and some 1/144 Airliners. I have also started building 1/350 scale CVW-9 1991 for Nimitz.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Happy Holidays,
Mark

Wasp is almost done. Have wait for some things from Shapeways to go on America. Flight deck for Kitty Hawk is being work on at this moment. It has been a good year for Supercarriers. Now if someone will do a 1/350 Ranger CVA-61 all guns!

A USS Ranger CV-61 With or without guns would be great, I am just waiting on Greg to do the USS Theodore Roosevelt sponsons so I can get back on my 1991 build.

Yes, the America island is still in works. I'm pretty close to finishing the Reagan island and will use some of the lessons learned on America.

Hi Greg,
Are you doing the aft mast for Reagan to go with the island and main mast you are doing and have done? I am saving my pennies for your complete Reagan set one day.
America will be welcomed as well. 1/350 and 700th scale for both!

I've started Meng's 1\700 USS Lexington. This is a quick build, no-glue kit which has a surprisingly good level of detail. I'm not planning to add any extra detail but have some fun with the painting and weathering.
Hope to post some photos shortly.
Cheers

Hi Mark, Ah yes I need, to finish that up. The aft mast is just about there. The rest of the island is still a ways off.

Hi Greg,
No hurry on Reagan for me. I have to finish a few projects and after I added up everything I need to get to build Reagan correctly, it was more pennies than I thought.
It is a must build for me though. Keep up the good work!

Yeah, no hurry on the America island also. Lot of work to be done turning the hull from J.F.K into the America.

Some progress made on Meng's 1/700 USS Lexington.
Painted with Lifecolor acrylics. Quite a way to go!
