Thanks! Just trying to at least get an hour in here and there and knock it out. All the railings are in from turret 3 forward, so that's a plus. Need to get the port side launch completed next. And of course, repaint the hull!

Getting there.

I did some work! Holy moly....summer hasn't monopolized all of my time yet!

Image

This one, of course, focused on the ship...instead of what I was meaning to show.
Image

And assembled the rest of the 5" turrets. I'll remove the ladders and start adding PE tonight or tomorrow.
Image

I also assembled the after funnel and removed the molded ladders. More detailing to come.

Thanks all...comments always welcome. Maybe I'll finish this one this year. Only 22 other models in the stash......

Thanks!.....I really need to repaint the hull. Looks horrible right now.

Trying to hold myself to finishing one detail/part an evening right now. Port launch is done and glued in. Aft funnel is smoothed and ready for PE tonight. Didn't get a lot done on the 5" guns, but they're progressing.

More progress made. I'm surprised how many hours zoom by working on this and me not even noticing.

Funnel work....all PE on. I'll add the resin SATCOM later once I have everything else ready on it. Primer on to see what areas need more clean up. 5" turrets are getting there. Gaps are filled and I added the PE....um....box to the tops. Ladders and doors tomorrow.

Comments as always are welcome.

I like your stack!

Why only 4 5" mounts? Are you thinking of replacing that forward pair with something...something like Mk29 Sea Sparrow launchers?

Great job man. Good update. Keep them coming! This is inspiring work!

Hey Dave (assuming from your screen name, ha!)

I'd already assembled and painted the 2 forward 5" inch guns when I did the forward superstructure. They're sitting under a glass case now with the forward structure, staying dust free till it's time for final assembly!

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate it. Finished with the yard, car, house and dog work for the day. Clean up time and I then I think I'll finish the 5 inchers and get some paint on.

Cheers!

Hull repainted and 5" guns done and painted. Might have to repaint the boot stripe. '

Getting there!

Man, that is awesome! Great progress! How did the wood deck go down? I have heard a few disruptive things about the wood decks. How is it treating your project?

Thanks! The wood deck has performed very well. Pontos seems to have used a pretty good adhesive and I've not had many problems. There's a few spots where I suspect I didn't clean the model off enough before laying it down where its come up. I've CA'd those down in place and no issues since.

On another note, does anyone know if the aft SATCOM was painted black or grey? I can't see to find any clear pics of the area or I find them and it's been removed (museum). I'm pretty sure there's an image on NAVSOURCE.....but they apparently are doing work on the site today.

Help?

EDIT: Navsource it up......grey for SATCOM :)

More progress. Aft funnel cap painted along with rear mast. Decks painted on the aft missile deck along with railings added. And of course I thought to myself after adding the railings......"Should have painted the Tomahawk launcher mounts first...would have been easier". Oops

Thanks Nicolas! I appreciate it!

More progress from the weekend. I removed the mounts for the CIWS and Tomahawk box launchers from the forward missile deck (I will do the same for the aft, doh!) in preparation for the Veteran Models launchers I purchased. I also patched the Harpoon mounts since I also have those from Veteran.

More work but it's really not too far from being complete :O

Thanks Dave! Year, I guess it depends on what Eduard based their PE set on. Maybe 1984?

More to come....got stuck watching Expedition Overland this evening, no progress!

This looks great Brett! It takes a lot of work to get this far! Are You planning to put some weathering on the model?

Thanks Wojtek! I think I will probably add a slight amount of weathering once it's fully assembled and sealed with some Future. To be honest, I'm not that great with weathering (yet) so, it's going to be pretty light. But, I don't want her to look brand new! :)
