If so, then mixed blessing.

I suppose sanding down the hull plating is less of a job than correcting half a hull.

I'd like to know or see shots of the hull of Trumpeter's upcoming 1/200 Enterprise/ Yorktown kits so I can compare it to the Merit 1/200 Hornet hull. It would look weird if the Trumpeter hull has hull plating, when the Merit hull is smooth.....

I don't have the exact install date, but they were in place by the time of her late '41 Life Magazine spread. She retained them until her late '43 major refit when she had her hull blistered.

Any info on how Enterprise's deck strike was spotted on the morning of June 4th, prior to launching her attach against the Kido Butai? I'm looking for the number of planes on the deck, and in what order they were spotted, similar to the information found here.

Martin, I don't know if you already have this information but I assume you do because of the time lag from your post until now but this may help someone else.

The book "Pacific Payback" by Steven L Moore has that info in it. The book is primarily about Enterprise's SBD bombing and scouting Squadrons from Pearl
Harbor through Midway.

It lists the aircraft numbers, pilots & radio/gunners names by sections and the text gives you info on which planes carried 500lb or 1000lb bombs. It doesn't tell
which specific a/c number carried which bomb but simply says the first 5 or 6 planes carried a 500lb.

I just finished reading it last week. I downloaded it to my tablet from my local library.

I can now see why Revell's 1/480 Enterprise kit came with only SBD's after reading how the flight deck was spotted June 4, 1942.

Boy, have I screwed up!! Fat, dumb, and happy I have completed the Merit Enterprise with the Infinity detail set for time line of Oct. 1942. Stupidly modelled the F4Fs and TBDs with the SBDs included with the model in the blue gray and light gray scheme but it appears that at that time Air Group Ten had arrived with F6Fs And TBFs !! So I have to acquire the different aircraft and re-start. Would I be correct in assuming they would be in a different camo scheme? If so, what? Need help!! Thanks.

No F6Fs in late 1942, still the F4F-4. All you need to do is replace the TBD Devastator torpedo planes with TBF Avengers. Same camo and insignia color schemes as at Midway.

Shattered Sword has some info: Two groups, CAP fighters and SBDs in the first launch, escort fighters and TBDs in the second launch.

"Mechanical issues and other problems" meant a gap between the two groups being launched so SBDs were ordered to head for enemy before second wave had launched.

Hello all

I have received Academy's new CV-6 Enterprise 1/700 today. Nice kit all in all and according to the package the version during the battle of Midway. I would like to build my Enterprise as she was during the battle of Santa Cruz though. Can anybody point out potential changes between the two battles that were done to the ship. Plane wise it seems the Devestators were gone and replaced by Avangers at that time.

Do you mean a Trumpeter Enterprise? Because Academy's Enterprise is already out.

Maybe I have missed it but has anybody done this model by Merit? What is it like? I have read so many horror stories about Trumpeter and Merit that I am reluctant to spend the money on this kit.
