For whom it may concern: I stumbled across these photos of HMS Venerable in camouflage, ca 1948, when she was just transfered to the Dutch Royal Navy as Hr.Ms. Karel Doorman (2), pennant QL-2. The 'V' for Venerable was retained on the flight deck for some time, only after the modernization mid 1950s this was replaced by 'D', the pennant being R81 by that time.

Are they the same as mounted on the ship in 1946-48?

not on the Bonnie as construction stopped with end of war & did not restart til early 1950's.

I suspect not - the mounts are old (very old - 1901 old) but the guns are WW2 vintage, and there are date stamps on them from 1966 indicating that's when they were assembled into the saluting gun configuration.

That's what I need, Warrior's saluting guns, 46-48. If anyone has good photos of them, I'd appreciate it.

One of the issues of IPMS Canada's R/T (Random Thoughts) published sometime around 2010 or 2011 has an article on HMCS Warrior with what I remember to be pretty good art work and some photos. I have the issue somewhere myself but I'll be darned if I can figure out where it is right now. I don't know if the answer to your question is in the article but it might help. Maybe someone else has a smarter storage system than me (probably) and knows where the issue is in his or her collection...

I'll keep looking for it anyway.

If someone could find it, that would help. We're not going to release the Warrior or the Ocean for awhile after all (plans have changed here) so you have some time to look. If we don't hear from anyone, we'll just release the kit without them when the time comes.

I'm pretty sure my copy of the issue of R/T with the HMCS Warrior article is in my storage locker. My storage locker is presently buried under a pile of snow (at least the door is). It's expected to get up to 12C this weekend so maybe I'll be able to get into the locker and look for the issue then..., if I don't drown in the melt off...

Almost every warship carries salute guns, in that time period these were permanently fitted in the shape of 3" guns from WW1 vintage. So yes.

Today? The photo is showing Bonnie, I thought she was reduced to razor blades in Taiwan early in the seventies! Fifty years ago. So what makes you say these guns are still being used today, anno 2022?

Probably he means they look pretty much identical to the ones on our MCDVs and Halifaxes when installed:

I'm quite certain they are the same guns. I've got detailed photos of 5 of the ones we still use today in the RCN - I took them in my role as Tech Services Chief in Base Logistics, and have actually had contact with the LCMM (Life Cycle Materiel Manager) in Ottawa about them in the past. I just sent him the above picture this morning.

Compare the access panel and data plate location on this picture from 2018.

I think this might actually be the gun seen on the left of the photo from the 60's.
