Hello Dino, great job for sure!!!

One question though, how did you shape the Milliput so nicely? When I'm sanding it, it always seems to develop pits/dents.... Yours seems to be pretty smooth. What's the grey in certain parts? Didn't you mix it well or is it some kind of different material or paint?

Hi Neptune, yes Milliput isn't a friendly material, but after 24 h it can be sanded wery well. When I use it I try to keep the surface smooth using a bit of water.

The grey thing that you see somewere is Tamiya putty used to correct any major defect in milliput surface :eyebrows:

...and here the results, to be honest I was surprised ... the casted parts are better than what I hoped

I'm having some problems just with the gun breaches.

In the meantime I made some progress in the aft superstructure and main mast:

Thank you guys, with the summertime incoming the works are slowing down a bit :cool_2: but my efforts are all concentrated to start the paint work soon!

Dino,

I really love to see your ship growing. You do an excellent work on this very impressive projekt. Some time in the future I will start such an scratchbuild too but it will take some time until then. Im still young and I have to find the right ship. :thumbs_up_1:

Keep on building!

Cheers,

Torben, the right subject is a must in the case of scratchbuildings, you must really love a ship if you are going to work around it for a lot of months :heh:

Dino, you're making a stunning job of the Barham - she looks gorgeous! (And remember never to pronounce the "H" - I've read "Bar'ram" was the preferred pronounciation).

I think that this fit is by far the best for this class. I find the twin-funnel as-built appearance a bit bland, and the Warspite's later "block o' flats" look just horrible.

Thanks for detailing your outstanding work.

Dino,

you are absolutely right. I often think about this problem but Im still in the idea-finding-stage.

Back on the Barham after being busy with a small diorama.

I'm waiting a new airbrush in order to start the paint work. Next monday it should arrive :eyebrows:

In the meantime I'm adding more small details to the hull, and this week I'll cover it with a thin layer of primer putty spray as a measure to check all the build before to paint it.

Here some shots of what I did:

I added part of the degaussing cable, I chose to reproduce it only where I have documentations to do it. I prefer to avoid to add a detail if the alternative is to guess about it.

Common sense says that the degaussing cable goes full circle around the hull, so you must add detail even though you have no pictures. Otherwise the cable will look silly. The model should look plausible and detail must suggest accuracy. A cable that doesn't run the entire hull will surely distract the trained eye. Using pictures of other RN ships helps best to estimate what it should look like. I also do this, from time to time. Better to have estimated detail that is roughly right that no detail at all! This is a matter if your model must be accurate AND precise. Precision is good, but sometimes accuracy will have to do.

Hi Foeth,
yes your reply is correct, and I'm almost sure about where the cable was fixed, but I prefer to wait untill I will be 100% sure about the correct position, always hoping in new photos :eyebrows:

To add the cable later will be an easy task also on a finished model.
