The "Winds" had different namesover their lives.

Don't know quite what you mean by "more info". More than what??

You will find three Winds here if you check each listing: http://www.navsource.org/archives/09/08/08idx.htm

Do you plan to convert one of the available kits (Revell, Loose Cannon, Niko Models) to a USCG version?

Can anyone point me to where I can find a set of deck plans for wind class armed icebreakers?

Maybe Joe (An Old, Retired Coastie!) is able to help you? At least his model of Eastwind is nice!

Chuck
Unfortunately I dont have what youre looking for but I recommend you start with the Coast Guard Historians office at: http://www.history.uscg.mil. You may also want to try the Coast Guard Yard at Curtis Bay, MD. At: http://www.dcms.uscg.mil/Our-Organizati ... uard-Yard/.
Good luck mate.

Thank you, Guys.

One more question, were the decks on wind class wood planked or bare metal?

I would say definitely wood planked, except for the forecastle forward of the breakwater. I have sufficient photos supporting that.

Thank you, I thought the deck would be wood covered for its insulation properties. But I wondered if extreme cold and water potentially freezing below the wood might make wood deck impractical.

Apparently is wood no problem in the cold, think of the wooden expedition ships of the polar travelers in the nineteenth and early twentieth century, in particular the 'Fram' of Nansen and later Amundsen.

By the way, from the color in the photos I guess the Wind class icebreaker's decks were covered in pine, and not in teak as would be anyone's first guess.
