This is my take on Samek’s 1:700 HMS York, a kit bought about twenty years ago.
The ship is shown as she might have appeared in January 1941 prior to her loss.
A lot of additional detail was scratchbuilt and added from WEM, Micro Master, Albion Alloys, etc.
Rigging is a mixture of Caenis, Lycra and stretched sprue elements.
Painting was done mostly using enamels from the Colourcoats range and the model was weathered extensively to reflect a wartime appearance.
A little less than hundred 3D printed crew members from a number of manufacturers populate the decks.
The ship will be a part of a diorama depicting Souda Bay, along with HMS Ajax and a Flower-class corvette.

So well done! The rigging especially really brings the ship to life. I have the Trumpeter kit of York and if it turns out even half as good as yours I would be ecstatic!

Incredible work George! The camouflage came out excellent and the highlights look very good, the rigging is very fine and consistent. The crew figures are crazy! I have been following the progress of the build and its great to see it completed!

Absolutely beautiful! Stellar paint and rigging! I just won the Samek Texas on eBay and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the kit given the age.

Gentlemen, thank you very much for your kind words!
Meanwhile the build of my next model, HMS Ajax (Flyhawk) is well advanced.
I will start a WIP thread soon.
She and HMS York will be part of my next diorama along with along with a recently acquired Flower class corvette from Black Cat Models, to be built probably as HMS Gloxinia.

How did you do the rigging?

My attempts have been met with mixes success. I tried caenis thread attached with superglue. I applied a bit of tension to get the caenis straight by attaching a blob of clay to the line as it was dangling over a yard arm or such. That was ok but the tension gradually bent the (plastic) mast.

My method of making the rigging is as follows:
it is important for the masts and yards to be sufficiently rigid, so they are invariably scratchbuilt of metal, usually brass tube (Albion Alloys). In this case (pole masts) the first step was to stabilise the masts. That was done with caenis, glued into pre-drilled holes in the deck, the other end wound around the mast. I just kept pulling them taut while the superglue was setting. For the signal halyards and the wireless antennae between the masts I used lycra, coloured in situ. The rest was done using stretched sprue.

remainder similar method for me except I try and use stainless steel for masts if possible
I of tube I slide in the next size down and trickle in glue to make even more rigid.
