How to touch up over sprays

Post by HuskerNPeoria »

MOrning all. Tremendous models being posted constantly.

I was wondering, what is the best way to touch up paint that has bled under the masking tape? Such as the black boot stripe bleeding onto the hull red or upper hull grey?

Seems like it could be a never ending process to get the lines perfect.

After you apply your masking tape, spray over the edge of the tape with the color already on the model under the tape. This will seal the edge so that anything that runs under the tape is the color already there. Then spray over the joint with the new color. Remove the tape as soon as the new color is dry to the touch- don't wait for it to fully dry. This will give you sharp edges which do not need correcting. Also, don't use the masking tape right off the roll as this edge is never perfect- cut a new edge with a metal straight edge and sharp blade.

Instead of using the last color to seal the masking tape, I spray a coat of Future. The advantages of Future over paint are that you don't have to worry if you're masking over multiple colors (such as hull camouflage), the Future goes on much thinner than paint, and is dry enough to paint over within a few minutes.

All these tips are wonderful and great. As it is though, I've already finished painting the hull, and all these tips are great 20/20 hindsight. The other half of the problem is me not knowing to think of pre-addressing a pre-existing problem. If only I could start knowing beforehand the problems I'll come across in my travels/excursions, then that'd be great.

Merry Christmas
